ADJUSTMENTS TO THE TEACHING PROCESS (CLASSES AND EXAMS) FOR THE CURRENT SUMMER SEMESTER 2024
The rules governing the adaptation of the educational process to the needs of persons with special needs, including those with disabilities, are set out in Order No. 4/02/ 2024 of the Rector of the University of Economics and Humanities in Warsaw of 22 February 2024 on the Regulations concerning the adaptation of the educational process to the needs of people with special needs, including those with disabilities.
The aim of this adaptation is to ensure equal educational opportunities for persons with special needs, including those with disabilities, by providing them with full access to education at the University of Economics and Humanities in Warsaw, while maintaining the full academic standards.
Below are the key stages in the process of awarding grants to students:
-
1.
Students who require adjustments to their exams and/or classes should contact the BON office. For the current summer semester, students may apply for ADJUSTMENT CARDS between 18 March and 26 April 2024. The ADJUSTMENT CARD is a document issued on behalf of the University via BON. It contains information about the adjustments granted by the Dean (of the relevant faculty), e.g. an extension of the exam duration, a change in the format of the exam, etc. The card does not contain information about the student’s health or the nature/degree of their disability, but only details of the types of adjustments granted, how they are to be implemented, and their period of validity.
-
2.
The student submits an application to the BON Office, after which staff verify the documents and meet with the student.
-
3.
BON staff may or may not recommend that adjustments be granted – they assess whether a particular disability, illness or other impairment affects the learning process.
-
4.
BON staff contact the Dean of the relevant department and convey BON’s position. The Dean, having considered BON’s opinion, decides whether granting the adaptation is justified. If so, they issue a decision granting the ADAPTATION CARD.
-
5.
On the basis of the Dean’s decision, the BON issues the student with an ADAPTATION CARD or a decision to refuse the application, against which the student may lodge an appeal.
-
6.
A student who requires adjustments to an exam or class and holds an ADAPTATION CARD should contact the relevant lecturer directly at least 7 working days before the exam or class, present the ADAPTATION CARD (by sending a scan of the card) and agree on the terms of the adjustments — in accordance with the adjustments described in the Card.
-
7.
BON does not act as an intermediary in arrangements regarding exam or class adjustments, unless a student or lecturer requests this.
-
8.
Lecturers grant adjustments solely on the basis of the information contained in the ADAPTATION CARD. Any other documents submitted by students to lecturers (referrals from counselling centres, medical certificates, test results, disability certificates, etc.) do not constitute grounds for granting adjustments to exams or classes. The only valid document confirming the validity of an adaptation is the ADAPTATION CARD issued by BON and signed by the Dean of the relevant faculty.
-
9.
Adjustments to the educational process relate to situations arising from students’ health issues that prevent them from participating fully in the educational process.
-
10.
Decisions on other matters, such as the rescheduling of exams, sick leave, medical certificates and Individual Study Arrangements, are taken by the Deans. The BON does not intervene in these processes.
